KUALA LUMPUR: An orange alert has been issued for Sungai Klang in Selangor, where the water level has risen to 2.59 metres as of 9.15am today.
According to the Drainage and Irrigation Department’s Public Infobanjir website, Sungai Klang has reached the “warning level” and is just 0.41 metres shy of the “dangerous level.”
Meanwhile, the Department has issued a yellow alert for five rivers in Perak, Melaka, Pahang and Sarawak.
Between 8am and 9.30am today, Sungai Perak recorded a water level of 6.51 metres, Sungai Melaka (1.64m), Sungai Duyong (1.27m, in Melaka), Sungai Bertam (940.51m) in Pahang, and Batang Baleh (117.64m) in Sarawak.
The Department issues three categories of warnings in its website; yellow, orange and red.
Yellow alerts are for water levels that do not pose any immediate danger; oranges alert indicate that water has reached the “warning level” and could enter the “dangerous level”, and that those in nearby areas should prepare for flooding.
Red alert means that the water level has reached the riverbank and that parts of surrounding, low-lying areas have started to flood.
