Malaysia Bike Week to gather 100,000 bikers

KUALA LUMPUR: Some 100,000 bikers from across the nation and neighbouring countries are expected to join the Malaysia Bike Week (MBW2018) at Malaysia Agro Exhibition Park Serdang (MAEPS) from March 23 to 25.

Gabungan Persatuan Permotoran Malaysia (GPMOTO) president Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusof said MBW 2018 is the nation’s first biggest motorbike jamboree programme.

Ab Rauf, who is also Umno executive secretary, said the idea for the programme came from Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also GPMOTO executive chairman, who aspired to to gather all motorcycle owners, from superbikers to easy rider, kapcai, classics, and even scooters in one event.

“We are not only expecting local participants. We have invited bikers from Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand,” he said after the GPMOTO meeting at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here yesterday.

Media Prima Bhd has been appointed the official media for MBW 2018, with collaboration from TV3 in its 'Jom Heboh' event.

The 'Cup Prix' event or special race event will be handled by Malay tabloid, Harian Metro.

Zahid is expected to launch the event on March 24.

Also, Ab Rauf said around 30 Yamaha Y15ZR motorcycles are up for grabs as lucky draw prizes, along with motorcycle accessories.

Miss Motorbike 2018 contest will also be held and open to all 'Lady Bikers' participants where they will be judged based on the best motorcycle in all categories.

“Islamic religious talks will also be held to fulfil the spiritual needs to the attendees, other than casual talks with motorcycle icons and local personalities.” Ab Rauf said.
