KUALA LUMPUR: The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) building located in Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya was consumed by fire this afternoon.
The blaze is believed to have started around noon.
No casualties were reported, nor were there any injuries. Those in the six-storey building when the fire broke out were believed to have managed to evacuate safely.
It is understood that the fire may have started on the first floor at the back of the building, where some renovation work was being conducted.
The fire as well as the thick smoke could be seen from as far away as Bangsar. The scene brought traffic to a standstill along the Federal Highway, with onlookers snapping pictures and videos.
Meanwhile, the EPF corporate communications department gave its assurance that contributors information and savings were unaffected by the fire.
