KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak joined 10,000 people at the opening of the 23-acre (9.3ha) 99 Wonderland Park at Tasik Sri Murni here last night.
As fireworks erupted in the sky overhead, Najib was taken on a tour of the unique park surrounding a 20-acre (8.1ha) lake.
After about 50 minutes, Najib, accompanied by JL99 Group chairman Datuk Seri Jeff B.K. Lee, left the area around 9.35pm.
Also present were Federal Territories Minister, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Tan Sri Mhd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz.
JL99 Group, the company behind the building of the park, had taken a disused lake and transformed it into a recreational park at a cost of RM18 million. It took about two years to be completed.
Among the attractions at the park are a hatchery and incubator room, deer yard, ostrich farm, bird square, rabbit house, duck lagoon and exotic animals as well as facilities such as Sky Fountain, Magical Bridge, T-Rex Ring, Golden Waterfall, 12 Zodiac Zone and 99 Cruise.
The company said Malaysian citizens will get to enjoy the park for free admission from today until April 13.
After that, it will be open via paid admission to visitors from 6pm to 9.30pm (Monday to Thursday) and 6pm to 9.30pm (Friday to Sunday) and public holidays.
