Furniture warehouse, car workshop in OUG ravaged by morning fire

KUALA LUMPUR: A furniture warehouse and a car workshop on Jalan Puchong Batu 6 1/2, near OUG Parklane, were destroyed in fire this morning.

The furniture warehouse was severely damaged in the 10am fire, while the workshop and nine vehicles inside were burnt to the ground.

According to the warehouse owner, who only wants to be known as Tan, she received a call from one of her regular customers at 10am, alerting her that the warehouse was on fire.

"My customer then alerted the Fire and Rescue department. I inherited the warehouse from my father 15 years ago, this is the first time there has been a fire.

"The warehouse was holding a batch of furniture I brought in before Chinese New Year. This included a luxurious bedroom set, which I was supposed to deliver to a customer today.

"I am still calculating my losses," the 56-year-old owner said when met at scene.

Meanwhile, City Fire and Rescue Department director Khirudin Rahman said a distress call was received at 10.01am.

"Thirteen trucks and 83 firemen from the Bukit Jalil, Seputeh, Pantai, Hang Tuah, Pudu, and Sentul fire stations dispatched to the scene.

"The team arrived nine minutes later and the fire was brought under control at 11.29am," he said.

Khirudin said the fire started from the furniture warehouse and spread to the workshop. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
