GEORGE TOWN: More PKR members had expressed their dissatisfaction over the new e-voting system used in the party election held yesterday in the state.
Balik Pulau branch chief candidate Syed Mohamad Nazli Syed Ahmad urged the results of the Penang PKR election to be annulled.
Instead, he called for fresh voting utilising manual voting process to replace the e-voting system.
Mohamad Nazli said several key weaknesses was found in the e-voting system and as such it should be replaced by the manual voting system.
“Since the beginning, I had mentioned that the system used was weak. It could not be used in the days running up to the election date, we could not update the voter’s list.
“There are also cases where voters were changed to another branch, so the voting process could not take off for hours.
“Some came early to settle this (voting) but eventually they left the voting centres as they have other more important things to do.
“The system itself is haywire, checks found the names but then they could not vote as the name was not registered at the said branch,” he said in a statement today.
He also said that elderly members who were not tech savvy and struggled to cast their votes yesterday.
Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) candidate Ong Jing Cheng also shared a similar sentiment and cited the lack of transparency in counting the votes as the reason to switch back to the traditional way of voting.
“The results were not revealed after the voting process is done, total number of voters were also not revealed and there is also no monitoring the counting of number of votes.
We are not sure if all the votes done through the tablet was taken into account.
“I was told that the votes for me was high but I still feel that the e-voting has to stop.
“I urge the party leaders to re-evaluate the voting system. Use manual system instead and update the voters list before conducting the election,” he said.
Results of the Penang PKR party election had been retained while the results in Kedah has been annulled.
