KUALA LUMPUR: Flash floods hit several areas in the city centre following heavy rains since 4pm today.
The rising water level at Bulatan Dato Onn on Jalan Parlimen brought the traffic to a standstill.
A Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) spokesman said road users were advised to avoid Jalan Parlimen to reduce traffic congestion.
“In addition, road users along Jalan Maharajalela (near the Monorail Station) and Jalan Pudu were also affected by floods.
“Traffic congestion occurred in areas where the roads were inundated with floodwaters, so users are advised not to ply those roads,” he said.
Other affected area were reported in Jalan Rawang to Bandar Homes Bandar and Bandar Puteri Puteri, Rawang since 5pm today.
Heavy rain also caused water level of a river near AEON Rawang to rise.
Water overflowed onto the road and rose to 0.4 meter-deep.
As a result, motorists were stuck in severe traffic congestion on both sides.
