KOTA KINABALU: About 5,000 people thronged Padang Merdeka here today to celebrate the 65th birthday of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.

The event kicked-off with Juhar receiving a salute from the main guard of honour of the 7th Batallion Royal Malay Regiment, followed by the playing of the national and state anthems, as well as 17 artillery shots.

Juhar then inspected the parade contingent teams while accompanied by Major Mohideen Iddin from the Lok Kawi Army Camp.
