HULU SELANGOR: The 37-year-old man, who was caught on video driving a lorry against the traffic along North South Expressway (NSE), does not have a driving licence.
Hulu Selangor district police chief Superintendent Lim Bhak Pai said checks also showed that the 37-year-old lorry driver, who was a medicine supplier, had 64 unpaid summonses and 36 arrest warrants against him.
“Cross checks at the police system revealed that he was once charged under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
“Preliminary urine test showed he was negative for drugs but police also took the suspect to Kuala Kubu Hospital for a blood alcohol test. The sample will be sent to the Chemistry Department for a thorough examination,” he said in a statement today.
Lim said the man drove against the traffic for about 3km after he exit Sungai Buaya toll plaza before he collided with another lorry at Km432 southbound of the NSE at about 9.15am.
“Upon arrived at the scene, a lorry that was travelling from Ipoh to Kuala Lumpur in the middle lane spotted the lorry that was driven by the suspect moving towards him.
“The 48-year-old man failed to brake and crashed into the suspect’s vehicle. No one was injured in the incident,” he said.
The case was being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for dangerous driving and Section 336 of the Penal Code for committing an act which endangers life of others.
