JOHOR BARU: A construction worker was killed when part of a bridge undergoing construction in Jalan Pengerang, Kota Tinggi near here collapsed this morning.
The 42-year-old victim from Bangladesh was doing construction work alongside his colleagues when the incident occurred at 9am.
However, he was the only one to fall along with the broken portion of the bridge. His colleagues were unhurt in the incident.
Bandar Penawar Fire and Rescue Station Operations officer, Azlan Mohd Sobberi, said eight personnel were deployed to the scene after they received a report on the incident at 9.44am.
Rescuers took about 20 minutes to remove the victim’s body from the rubble, before handing it over to the police for further action.
Meanwhile, the Public Works Department, local authorities in Pengerang and other parties have launched an investigation into the bridge collapse.
