Couple killed in Kota Tinggi crash had planned to attend 'doa selamat'

KOTA TINGGI: The married couple killed in a head-on collision with a truck along Jalan Tun Sri Lanang today had planned to attend a 'doa selamat' (thanksgiving) ceremony scheduled for tomorrow.

Md Raus Kamaludin, 40, and his wife Noorain Tohit, 33, were headed towards Sungai Renggit from Kota Tinggi on their motorcycle at 6.10am when the crash occurred.

Raus's sister-in-law, Norhamimah Khamis, 39, said the couple had planned a family gathering for the prayer ceremony tomorrow to mark the 100th day of the passing of Raus' father.

"The couple were on their way back to their house at the Tai Tak oil palm mill after visiting Noorain's parents in Felda Bukit Easter, which was their weekly routine.

"They wanted to plan the 'kenduri doa selamat'," she said.

She described Raus as quiet and kind, saying he was deeply affected by his father's passing three months ago.

Raus and Noorain had been married for over a decade and filled their free time caring for their seven cats.

She said the couple preferred to travel on their motorcycle instead of driving, even on long trips.

Their remains were laid to rest at the Felda Bukit Waha Muslim cemetery here, today.
