GEORGE TOWN: The investigation papers on an accident involving a sports utility vehicle (SUV) white Mazda CX-5 which plunged into the sea on Penang bridge will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) on Monday.

The car was driven by the late Moey Yun Peng, 20, who was a student.

Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said even though the chemist report on the drug and alcohol content of the Toyota Vios driver involved in the collision was yet to be obtained, police would still submit the investigation papers for initial review.

“Even though we are still waiting for the report the initial review has to be done.

“So far we have recorded statements from 16 individuals including witnesses, family members and friends of the victim and the Vios driver,.” he said when contacted today.

It was reported that an accident involving two vehicles on the Penang Bridge caused the while Mazda CX-5 driven by Yun Peng to crash through the guard rail and plunge into the sea.

The accident took place about 2.50am at Km4 of the bridge, in the direction of the mainland.

When rescuers arrived at the scene, they found a heavily damaged Toyota Vios, while witnesses said the other vehicle had fallen into the sea.

Yun Peng was found strapped to the driver’s seat after the vehicle was retrieved from the sea earlier this week.

Police is investigating the case under Section 42(1) of Road Transport Act 1987.
