KUALA LUMPUR: A trailer lorry caught fire in the Genting Sempah Tunnel on the KL-Karak Expressway early this morning, triggering an 11km crawl of motorists heading to the East Coast of the peninsula.
Bernama reported that the trailer lorry’s cab section was charred, but that the driver was unhurt in the incident.
The tunnel was closed and a contraflow lane was opened between Km36.9 (west bound) and Km38.2 in front of the tunnel’s entrance – from 8.24am to 9.06am – for works to remove the damaged trailer lorry.
According to a Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) spokesman, the trailer was removed at 9.06am – but traffic remains heavily congested.
A Plus Malaysia Berhad spokesman said traffic is slow moving from Tapah to Gopeng.
