JOHOR BARU: A member of a factory’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) was injured in a fire that damaged the factory’s storage room this morning.
In the fire that started about 8.30am, the man was injured while trying to put out the flames at the storage room where paint and thinner were stored.
Fire and Rescue Department operation chief Mohd Faizol Selamat said the department received an emergency call about the fire at the plastic moulding factory located in Taman Gembira, Tampoi, here at 9.07 am.
He said five vehicles, including three fire rescue tenders, a water tanker and an Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) ambulance were deployed to the scene.
“About 30 per cent of the room was destroyed in the fire. The room was used to store paint and thinner used in the moulding process at the factory.
“We took about 90 minutes to bring the fire under control and the fire was fully extinguished about 10.30am” said Faizol when met at the scene.
He said the ERT member was injured in the forehead and was taken to the Sultan Ismail Hospital for treatment.
“The cause of the fire and the total loss are still being investigated,” said Faizol.
He added that a total of 30 department personnel from three stations, namely Tebrau, Johor Baru and Skudai, were involved in the operation.
