ALOR STAR: The Marine Department of Malaysia has cancelled all Dragon Star Shipping Sdn Bhd’s passenger ferry services for the Langkawi, Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis routes.
The cancellation was effective Monday onwards, reported Bernama.
In a statement last night, the department informed that following the cancellations, the company was prohibited from operating from passenger terminals in Kuah, Langkawi; Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis.
“The decision is based on a review of the company’s service record as well as the safety management level of its passenger ferries which was found to be unsatisfactory and could pose a safety risk to passengers,” the statement said.
On Feb 25, 52 Dragon Star 1 ferry passengers panicked when the ferry caught fire as it departed from Kuah Ferry Terminal, Langkawi to Kuala Perlis before being saved by other nearby boats and ferries.
