Hundreds of LPG cylinders spill onto road in PD accident

PORT DICKSON: Hundreds of cylinders of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) were strewn across the highway when a trailer lorry carrying the items overturned at Km2.5 of Jalan Linggi-Pedas, near Ladang Pengakalan Durian here, on Tuesday.

Port Dickson district police chief, Superintendent Aidi Sham Mohamed, said the incident occurred around noon when the trailer was on its way from Petaling Jaya, Selangor to Sungai Udang, Melaka.

He said that as the trailer was approaching a bend, the driver lost control and crashed into a bus stop on the left side of the road and overturned.

“This led to hundreds of cylinders of LPG spilling across the road and blocking traffic headed to Pedas. Police were alerted to the incident by members of the public and rushed to the location to bring the situation under control,” he said.

Aidi Sham said the trailer’s driver, S. Ramar, 50, from Taman Ria here, sustained injuries to the neck and arm.

The victim was brought to the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital, Seremban for further treatment before work began to collect the LPG cylinders.

“There were no gas leakages. The vehicle, however, was dented on its left side and broke its windscreen.”
