Agong's father, former Sultan of Pahang, dies aged 88 [NSTTV]

KUANTAN: Former Sultan of Pahang Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Ahmad Shah, who served as the country's seventh Yang di-Pertuan Agong from 1979 to 1984, died today. He was 88 years old.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, in a statement, said Sultan Ahmad Shah died at the National Heart Institute(IJN) about 8.50am today.

"With great sadness and sorrow, I hereby announce the death of His Majesty Sultan Ahmad Shah Al-Musta'in Billah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar Ri'ayatuddin Al Muadzam Shah on Wednesday, May 22. I wish to state here that Sultan Ahmad Shah passed away at 8.50am at IJN," read the statement.

His son Al-Sultan Abdullah succeeded Sultan Ahmad Shah as the sixth Sultan of Pahang on Jan 15 this year after the latter, who was reported to be ill, abdicated the throne after reigning for nearly 45 years.

Meanwhile, State secretary Datuk Seri Dr Sallehuddin Ishak is scheduled to hold a press conference at Wisma Sri Pahang at noon today to provide further details on the funeral arrangements.
