PORT KLANG: Seven Fire and Rescue Department personnel were hurt as they battled a fire that engulfed three factories at the Pulau Indah industrial zone on Friday evening (July 5).
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department chief Norazam Khamis said two personnel received inpatient treatment at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, while five others received outpatient treatment.
“One personnel fell and hurt himself while shifting the fire hose. Another fireman from the Sungai Pinang Fire and Rescue Station, Mohd Faizzuan Ayob, suffered injuries to his leg while another personnel from the Klang Fire and Rescue Department Muhammad Ridzuan Kamaruzaman suffered burns to his ears, besides inhaling poisonous gas.
“Five other pesonnel, Mohammad Hazreen Mazlan; Mohammed Wahyuddin MohdSaibani; Mohammad Izwan Salleh; Ahmad Ridzwan Awang and Mohd Shahrul Azuan Salleh, were given medical leave to recover,” he said.
Norazam said some 60 firemen were involved in putting out the blaze, which took place at Pulau Indah industrial zone, Westport.
“The firemen found that the fire engulfed three Class A factories comprising 5,574 square metres.
“One factory was completely razed to the ground, while another suffered 50 per cent fire damage,” he said.
He said personnel from five stations managed to bring the fire under control with the aid of the Royal Malaysian Police, as well as Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (SYABAS) and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).
