BUKIT MERTAJAM: An 11-year-old boy is in a coma after falling from the balcony of his second-floor apartment unit at Kuarters Bomba Pangsapuri Setia Wira, Taman Perai Utama here, on Wednesday.
The boy had been attempting to gain entry to his home through the kitchen door by climbing over the balcony railing when he slipped, at about noon.
It is learnt that the boy, returning home, realised that he had forgotten to bring his house keys. No one else was home at the time.
"His mother, 33, a cashier, left the house at 9.30am to go to work.
“His step father, 46, had gone to the nearby surau for a programme,” said Seberang Prai Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid.
The boy was rushed to the Seberang Jaya Hospital before being transferred to the Penang Hospital.
As of 6.30pm today, he is still unconscious.
Nik Ros Azhan added that police have recorded statements from the boys’ parents and neighbours.
