KUALA LUMPUR: Restoration of water supply to over 300,000 accounts in Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat and Sepang stood at 56.9 per cent complete as at noon today.
Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) Corporate Communications Department head Abdul Halem Mat Som said in Petaling, the restoration progress stood at 54.2 percent, Sepang and Putrajaya (60.1 per cent), Hulu Langat (87.7 per cent) and Kuala Langat (nil), after Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant resumed its operation since 1pm on Monday.
“The water supply will be restored in stages, depending on the geographical location and altitude of their premises, and areas located close to the distribution system are expected to receive supply earlier,” he said in a statement today.
He said water assistance to the affected areas was still on-going.
“Air Selangor has mobilised 72 water tankers, 21 jumbo tank trucks and activated 11PKS – which will operate 24 hours a day – to ensure that affected residents have adequate water supply during the disruption.
“A total of 46 static tanks and 17 public taps also provide water supply to those affected by the disruption.
“In addition, 14,616 of 5-litre water bottles were distributed to (people in) residential areas," he said, adding that Bukit Tampoi water treatment plant had resumed its operations since 9am.
On Saturday, the Sungai Semenyih water treatment plant was forced to be shut down completely due to odour pollution. It was caused by irresponsible people disposing illegal waste with solvent odour at the inlet around the Indah Water Konsortium's plant.
Following the closure, 366 areas with 328,957 consumer accounts in Petaling, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat, and Sepang were affected.
