Kelantan beefs up border monitoring to curb spread of coronavirus

KOTA BARU: The state government will work closely with the Kelantan Health Department to ensure the coronavirus infection reported in Thailand recently will not spread into the state.

Kelantan Local Government, Health and Housing Committee chairman Dr Izani Husin said good cooperation between the state government and the Health Department must continue in view of Kelantan's shared borders with Thailand.

"We (the state government) take this issue seriously and will always work and get the latest update from the Health Department.

"Precautionary steps must be taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus into the state," he told reporters after attending a dinner with enforcement agencies here last night.

Also present were Kota Baru Municipal Council president Tuan Zainal Abidin Tuan Yusof and Kota Baru district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rahim Daud.

Dr Izani also said the Health Department had beefed up it's monitoring at the state's entry points to check on travellers entering and leaving the country.
