Forget about Ramadan bazaars this year - Johor Sultan

JOHOR BAHRU: The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar stresses that it is not wise to hold Ramadan bazaars this year in Johor in light of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Via his official Facebook account, Sultan Ibrahim said this was because bazaars would pose a huge risk of close contacts and affect the health of the community at large.

"We are still getting reports of people testing positive for Covid-19, therefore I don't think it is suitable to hold Ramadan bazaars, not only here, but other places, for the sake of the rakyat's health and safety.

"Forget about Ramadan bazaars, I am worried if the outbreak persists, this will hamper the government's efforts in eradicating the virus completely," he said.

It was reported previously that the Johor government would be making an announcement soon on whether or not Ramadan bazaars in the state would be cancelled.

Selangor, Kedah and Terengganu have announced the cancellation of this year's Ramadan bazaars due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Sultan Ibrahim reminded the public not to take the orders and advice from the authorities lightly.

"You can see for yourselves how medical officers and front liners are working from morning to night to curb the spread of this disease.

"Imagine if the disease persists, it will affect the medical team and stunt the treatment system," he added.
