GEORGE TOWN: State Legislative Assembly speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang is the latest to announce that he will donate a months’ salary to the Covid-19 Fund.
In a statement, he said it is the least he could do to support the government's efforts to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
"I just want to contribute to the Penang Covid-19 Fund to show my support towards efforts to fight and curb the spread of the virus," he said recently.
Last week, state executive councillors, including Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, agreed to donate a month's salary to the fund.
Other elected assemblymen also pledged to support the fund by donating 30 per cent of their one month salary towards the state fund.
Law said he is confident the state will be able to minimise the impact of the virus and overcome difficulties faced by the spread of Covid-19.
"We are grateful that so many frontliners, including medical officers, the police, the military and others, are fighting for us on the frontline.
"NGOs (non-governmental organisations) and individuals have also extended their support.
"We must also do our part to obey the Movement Control Order (MCO) and stay home," he added.
