Two Kelantan villages begin Ramadan without water supply

GUA MUSANG: More than 200 villagers in Kampung Kuala Nerus and Kampung Rahmat, near here, are marking the first day of the holy month of Ramadan with no water supply.

Harian Metro reported that water supply to the two villages was cut late last year, and that residents have been depending on water tanks supplied by Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB).

But one villager claimed that the water tanks arrive just once every three days.

A resident of Kampung Rahmat, Zarina Che Ismail, 41, said even though the village is not far from a river, it is difficult for them to carry water for daily usage to the house, especially during the Movement Control Order (MCO) and fasting month.

"The water supplied by AKSB is not enough, as one household can only have one barrel which we use for cooking, doing laundry and cleaning, to the extent that we have to collect rain water," she said.

Another resident, Rukariah Mohd Yusoff, 57, said that she pays her water utility bill of RM4.50 every month, but her taps are still dry.

She claimed that AKSB said it cannot promise the villagers when the problem could be resolved.

"We've been getting the same answer each time we lodge a water disruption report. Now in Ramadan, it is more difficult for us to get clean water," said Rukariah.

Meanwhile, in a statement, AKSB Operation Department head Wan Khairuddin Wan Omar said: "Since most of our efforts to rectify the problem were halted by the MCO, we can only help residents by supplying clean water with a water tanker."
