KOTA BARU: The Merbau Chondong water treatment plant has stopped operations for the repair of a burst raw water pipe, affecting more than 33,000 account holders.
Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd (AKSB), in its statement, said work to repair the 1,100mm pipe began on Aug 4 and expected to be completed on Aug 9.
It stated the disruption on water supply would involve AKSB's account holders in four districts namely Machang, Pasir Puteh, Eastern and Southern part of Kota Baru.
"The impact from the ceasing of the water treatment plant's operations will result in the reduction and loss of treated water supply for almost 70 per cent of users of the Merbau Chondong water treatment plant or as much as 47 million litres in one day," said the statement.
The statement said AKSB has already mobilised assets of 11 water tank lorries to help the affected users.
"At the same time, water operator companies from other states have also given their commitment to help us by delivering water tank lorries to the affected areas soon.
"This lorries will arrive from Johor, Selangor, Terengganu, Penang and Pahang," it stated.
In the meantime, the statement said static tanks of between 500 to 1500 gallons have been placed in the areas to ease the burden on affected users.
