KUALA LUMPUR: While Malaysia has shown signs of recovery in its fight against Covid-19, the public is reminded to adhere to the strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) imposed under the Conditional Movement Control Order (MCO) to prevent a spike in cases.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said they are aimed at ensuring that effective measures put in place during the first three phases of the MCO to break the chain of Covid-19 infections are continued.
He said the Health Ministry will continue monitoring the situation and will advise the government to impose the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) on areas where new Covid-19 clusters emerge.
"If we detect a surge of cases in a certain area, we will not hesitate to put the area under EMCO. Everyone within the area will go through quarantine and swabs will be taken and tested," he said.
He added that those who are sick will be given immediate treatment, while those who show no symptoms will be quarantined as per existing SOPs.
Malaysia is currently in its fourth phase of the Movement Control Order (MCO), which is expected to end on May 12.
Dr Noor Hisham said Malaysia currently has laboratory capacity of 16,635 tests daily.
"We have yesterday conducted tests on 14,544 samples, which is 87 per cent of the full capacity," he said.
