PUTRAJAYA: Zoo Negara and other state zoos in the country will reopen to visitors starting tomorrow.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the permission was granted after the zoos came up with their own list of Standard Operating Procedures voluntarily.
"Zoo Negara together with all the other zoos in the country had jointly drafted a list of SOPs meant to be implemented at their respective zoos as a precautionary measure. The SOPs were then given to the special meetings board for a review and was agreed upon.
"All the zoos including Zoo Negara will be open to public from tomorrow," he said.
It was reported that since the enforcement of the Movement Control Order on March 18, there was less income for the zoos as they depended on ticket sales to cover their operational costs and expenses for the animals' welfare.
Zoo Negara deputy president Rosly @Rahmat Ahmat Lana had previously said that although the zoo's animal adoption campaign had received encouraging response, they were still in need of medical assistance.
"It is very encouraging especially in terms of food donations, but we did not receive much medical assistance...we need at least RM12,000 a day for food and medicine," he was quoted as saying on April 13.
