KUALA LUMPUR: One of the saddest moments in Malaysian pop culture has come to be – popular video retailer Speedy is closing its doors after decades of being in business.
Speedy Video Distributors Sdn Bhd in announcing the decision on its Facebook page, said it was carrying out "closing-down" sales at its stores nationwide.
"All outlets currently are having closing down sales. Please come and visit us to enjoy the last promotions.
"Thank you for your support during all these years. Please share the post for us!" read the statement.
It however did not specify a date for the closure.
Speedy's 14 stores that are still operating and the list of items on sale were also shared on the page.
The company, which was established in 1989, gained popularity for its array of international movie and drama titles, as well as music albums, being the go-to outlets for many Malaysians.
Some of the page followers bid the iconic home entertainment provider farewell, with some reminiscing fond memories at the outlets they had visited.
"Goodbye and thank you Speedy, I remember I bought many Japanese dramas from your outlet those days," said a Facebook user.
Another fan commented: "Thank you for entertaining millions of Malaysians, Speedy Video. You will be remembered always."
