Student dies on first day of school

KUALA LUMPUR: A Form Three student from a school in Bandar Tun Razak here died moments before resuming first day of school session today.

In the incident, the victim was listening to a briefing by a teacher on the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for schools, when the student suddenly lost consciousness.

The victim's mother who wanted to be known as Nora, 51, said she last spoke to her child at 7am before the victim went to school.

"My child walked to school with a few friends because the school was not that far from our house.

"At about 7.50am, I received a call from a teacher from the school who told me that my child has passed out. I rushed out immediately," she said.

The victim was rushed to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital (HUKM) in an ambulance and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Nora said her child, the youngest of four siblings, had no prior health issues was in good health.

"My child had no underlying health issues and was in good health. I honestly have no idea what happened. I am waiting for the result of the post-mortem by the hospital," she said.

It was understood that the victim's family was waiting for the Covid-19 test results before the start of the post-mortem.

Meanwhile, Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Mokhsein Mohamed Zon when contacted confirmed the incident.

"We are waiting for the result of the post-mortem by HUKM to ascertain the cause of death, before taking further action," he said.
