KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) leader Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi will be questioned by police over his remarks on security forces in the 2013 Lahad Datu incursion.
Federal Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Huzir Mohamed said the politician has agreed to provide his full cooperation to investigators in Sabah.
"We have called him to have his statement recorded and he said he will comply. We have made an appointment to take his statement, and this will be held in Sabah," he told reporters at a press conference in Bukit Aman here, today.
On Sept 20, Mohamaddin drew criticism after he purportedly characterised the bloody battle between Malaysian armed forces and Sulu terrorists in Kampung Tanduo, Lahat Datu as "theatrics".
He made the remark during his recent Sabah election campaign trail. His controversial speech was captured in a two-minute-30-second video which was widely shared on social media.
Many police reports against the former Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister were lodged. An investigation paper under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act were opened.
Mohamaddin has since apologised for his remarks, but he claimed that his speech had been purposely cut short in the viralled video to put him in a bad light.
