11 flood victims in Kelantan evacuated to nearby relief centres

KOTA BARU: Eleven people including children have been evacuated to flood relief centres after their villages were inundated by flood water.

The three families, the first group in the state forced to leave their homes since the start of the monsoon season, are taking shelter at Masjid Lama Keroh and SK Banggol Kulim, both in Kuala Krai.

According to the state Welfare Department's flood portal, six of them were taken to Masjid Lama Keroh while the rest to SK Banggol Kulim.

"The six was the first group of victims who decided to move to the mosque early this morning after two houses there were inundated in 0.3m deep water.

"They went to the mosque voluntarily as they fear for their safety, especially their children," said Kuala Krai Civil Defence Force officer Noorazleesyam Mohd Noor.

The remaining five victims were from Kampung Guchil and they moved out to the school around noon.

Meanwhile, only the Kelantan river in Kuala Krai rose above its alert level today, while other rivers were still below their alert marks.

As at 5pm, the Kelantan river in Kuala Krai recorded a level of 21.18m, which is 1.18m above its alert level of 20m and 1.32m below its warning level of 22.50m.
