GEORGE TOWN: A 49-year-old woman was crushed to death beneath an overturned car, which had earlier rammed into her, knocked into a concrete wall and dragged her 20ft below onto a backlane.
The driver of the car, also a woman, in her 70s, sustained chest injuries as a result of the 11.45am incident.
The deceased has been identified as Kim Hui Ping.
Both are residents at a condominium in Island Park here.
Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Department operation officer Yusri Zakaria said when they arrived at the scene about noon, they found the overturned Toyota Vios which had fallen 20ft below onto the back lane.
The condominium is on a hill slope and slightly elavated above the road.
"The driver was still stapped to her seat. We took her out and gave her first aid treatment.
"We found the deceased crushed under the front part of the car. It took us about 10 minutes to remove her," he said when met at the scene.
Yusri said the injured driver was sent to the Penang Hospital for treatment while the deceased was sent to the Forensic Unit for post-mortem.
Checks by the New Straits Times at the scene also found that a car which was parked along the backlane was also badly damaged.
Meanwhile, security guard S. Thinagaran, 36, who was still in shock after witnessing the freak accident said it happened very fast and he could not do much.
He said it was a normal practice of the deceased to wash her legs at the pipe outside before driving into her parking lot.
"The deceased was crossing the road mid-way to get to her car after washing her legs. I shouted to alert both women but it was too late then.
"The next thing I know, the senior citizen rammed into the victim while making her way into the condominium parking lot before knocking into the concrete wall and falling 20ft below onto a backlane.
"The senior citizen was driving slowly at the time but may have stepped on the accelerator after knocking into the victim in a moment of panic," he said.
Thinagaran said he also heard the deceased screaming.
