RAUB: The road between Tranum and Fraser's Hill, near here, was closed again this morning, barely 48 hours after it was reopened on Saturday.
District police chief Superintendent Kama Azural Mohamed said the road was closed to all vehicles after a huge boulder, along with earth, fell from the hillside onto the stretch at about 6am today.
"The stretch remains impassable to traffic. Those planning to travel to the hill station are advised to use the Kuala Kubu Baru road from Selangor.
"Due to the size of the boulder, it cannot be moved using excavators. The Road Care unit will have to break it up using explosives before clearing the stretch... it might require some time," he said when contacted today.
The single-carriageway was closed to all vehicles at about 9am on Saturday after a large tree was uprooted and crashed onto on a car on the road. However, the 27-year-old driver escaped unhurt.
The Road Care unit had cut the fallen branches and cleared the debris before the road was reopened late on Saturday.
It was earlier reported that the Road Care unit is making preparations to move the huge boulder, measuring between 10m and 15m, which is on the slope, fearing it might roll down in the event of soil movement.
Meanwhile, a state Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the road will remain closed to traffic as the authorities will need to look at a suitable method to remove the boulder.
"The Public Works Department and Road Care unit will remove the huge rock either by using hydraulic equipment or blasting it using chemical explosives," he said.
