KUALA LUMPUR: The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has announced the list of 19 names to be part of the state of emergency Independent Committee.
The committee would be led by former chief justice Tun Arifin Zakaria as chairman and will include health experts, and members of Parliaments from both sides of the aisle.
"The PMO wishes to announce the appointment of the 2021 emergency Independent Committee members, which has received the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah," it said in a statement today.
The list of members are:
1. Tun Arifin Zakaria (former chief justice) - Chairman
2. Tan Sri Samsudin Osman (former chief secretary to the government)
3. Tan Sri Norian Mai (former inspector-general of police)
4. Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin (former Armed Forces chief)
5. Prof Tan Sri Dr Mohamad Taha Arif (former Health director-general)
6. Tan Sri Dr Yahya Awang (cardiothoracic surgeon)
7. Tan Sri Ter Leong Yap (Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia president)
8. Tan Sri Dr R. Palan (Cyberjaya University pro-chancellor)
9. Datuk Sallehuddin Saidin (former deputy prosecutor, Attorney-General's Chambers)

"The Independent Committee, formed under Section 2 of the Emergency Ordinance (Necessary Powers) 2021, will serve to advise the Agong on the implementation and the end of the emergency.
"The National Security Council under the Prime Minister's Department acts as a secretariat in this committee."
The King had, on Jan 11, consented to proclaim a state of emergency nationwide until Aug 1, following the spike in daily Covid-19 cases.
