Royale Chulan Bukit Bintang to cease operations from today

KUALA LUMPUR: The four-star Royale Chulan Bukit Bintang Hotel in the city centre here closes its doors from today.

A notice sighted by the New Straits Times which carried the logo of Royale Chulan Hotels and Resorts Malaysia read: "Dear Valued Guest, thank you for your support and for allowing us to serve you since 2004.

"We hereby announce that Royale Chulan Bukit Bintang is permanently closed from 11th February 2021 onwards.

"All Royale Chulan Hotels and Resorts will remain at your service in the future.

"We do apologise for any inconvenience," added the message which was purportedly signed by Royale Chulan's management.

The hotel, formerly known as The Royale Bintang Kuala Lumpur, is located within the heart of Kuala Lumpur's Golden Triangle.

No reason was given for the closure of the hotel, which was part of Royale Chulan Hotels & Resorts, a homegrown chain of full-service hotels, founded and owned by Boustead Hotels and Resorts Sdn Bhd.

The company is a subsidiary of Boustead Holdings Berhad. (BHB).

In 2019, it was reported that BHB was disposing the Royale Chulan Bukit Bintang Hotel in Kuala Lumpur to Singapore-listed Hotel Royal Ltd for RM197 million in cash.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia then, BHB said the group was expected to realise an estimated gain of RM92 million on completion of the proposed disposal.

Boustead Hotels and Resorts Sdn Bhd, had previously inked an agreement to sell the 418-room hotel to Hotel Royal's subsidiary Every Room A Home Sdn Bhd.

It is learnt that the handover of the Bukit Bintang hotel property to its new owners was supposed to be effected at the end of this month.
