KUALA LUMPUR: A sex trade ring involving foreign women offering services for as low as RM100 has been busted in the heart of the city, with women from Uzbekistan, Iran, and Thailand among those arrested.
The women were found loitering around Jalan Bukit Bintang and Jalan Imbi, actively seeking clients before they take them to any of the nearby hotels.
City police chief Datuk Mohd Rusdi Isa said a team from Dang Wangi District Criminal Investigation Division (D7) conducted "ops noda" at both locations at 11.30pm yesterday before arresting four foreign women, aged between 35 and 59 suspected of engaging in prostitution.
He said police seized several items during the raid, including eight condoms, RM3,720 in cash, four smartphones, and wet tissues.
"The women arrested were found to have been actively seeking clients for sex, with the illicit activities reportedly taking place from 5pm to 3am daily.
"The modus operandi was for these women to search for their own customer, before escorting them to rented hotel rooms.
"It appears they were targeting both foreign nationals and regular customers, offering 'one shot' services for a fixed price," Mohd Rusdi was quoted saying to TV3 in a report.
He said further investigations will be carried out to track the network and movement of these women in Malaysia.
"All those arrested were taken to the Dang Wangi Police Headquarters for the documentation process. The case is being investigated under Section 372B of the Penal Code and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63," he said.
