SEBERANG JAYA: A boy was found hiding in the boot of a Proton Waja, driven by his stepmother, during a police roadblock at Km2.4 of the Butterworth Kulim Expressway (BKE) here yesterday evening.
In the 5pm incident, police had stopped the car, from Butterworth heading towards Seberang Jaya, for a check.
At the time, there was the woman and another boy seated in the car. The boy is the friend of the woman's stepson.
Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shafee Abd Samad said during checks, the woman told police that she wanted to go to Tesco Seberang Jaya to get some clothes.
"Police personnel manning the roadblock then ordered her to stop by the side of the road for further checks. The personnel also ordered her to open the boot, only to find her stepson inside," he said.
Shafee said the woman was issued with a compound for failure to produce a permit allowing her to travel from Butterworth to Seberang Jaya.
"We also advised the two boys as they are underage.
"The driver was also asked to turn back after the compound action was taken," he added.
Under the current Movement Control Order (MCO), only two people are allowed inside the vehicle.
Although the 10km radius had been cancelled and people are allowed to travel within the same district, inter district and inter-state travel is still not allowed.
The MCO 2.0 in Penang has been extended for another two weeks until March 4.
