KUALA LUMPUR: Sekijang member of Parliament Natrah Ismail has been urged to lodge a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over claims she was offered a bribe to switch her political allegiance.
The MACC, in a statement today, also urged individuals to come forward if they have information on claims of any attempts to bribe Members of Parliament to switch parties as circulated on social media.
"If the claims are authentic, this is considered corruption.
"Section 25 of the MACC Act 2009 stipulates that anyone who is offered or given gratification shall report the action.
"And the MACC will launch an investigation based on the report," read the statement.
Natrah from PKR claimed she was approached to switch parties and throw her support behind the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government and Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
It was reported that Natrah in a statement had claimed that she was approached by two people including one with the title of Datuk Seri asking if she was interested to support Muhyiddin and promised benefits in return.
"During the meeting, they said that I had done a good job for Sekijang and that they wanted to help me continue my work as a member of Parliament.
"They asked if I was interested to support Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as well as the benefits in return. I rejected the offer and that I had made it clear I have no intention to support Muhyiddin.
"The benefit will mean nothing if I had to turn my back against the struggles of Reformasi and break my oath which I took as an MP," said Natrah in a statement.
She had also said that she had reported the incident to her party's top leadership.
