KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry recorded 1,178 new Covid-19 cases as of noon today, raising the total number of infections in the country to 346,678.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the daily cases, 1,158 of them were local infections (861 Malaysians and 297 foreigners), while 20 others were imported (nine Malaysians and 11 foreigners).
Sarawak, he said recorded the highest number of new Covid-19 cases at 238, followed by Selangor (237), Penang (190) and Johor (165).
"There are currently 163 Covid-19 cases being treated at intensive care units (ICU), with 81 of them on ventilator support," he shared on his Facebook page today.
Dr Noor Hisham said there were 1,377 new recoveries reported today, raising the total number of patients who have recovered from Covid-19 to 331,001 or 95.5 per cent.
Six new deaths were also reported, bringing the death toll to 1,278 (0.37 per cent), he added.
Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said six more Covid-19 clusters have been identified in the country, of which five were linked to workplaces and one a community cluster.
This, he said, this brings the total number of Covid-19 clusters to 1,378.
"Two of the new workplace clusters were reported in Selangor (Bukit Serdang and Jalan Sungai Ramal clusters), two in Johor (Jalan Permas Cetak and Kait Gading clusters), and one in Penang (Jalan Teluk Kumbar cluster).
"The community cluster was identified in Pahang (Taman Emas cluster)."
Dr Noor Hisham said as of today there are 362 active clusters with the most cases reported from the Jalan Jelawat cluster (105 cases), Kait Gading cluster (64 cases), and Rimbayan cluster (15 cases).
He added that a total of 1,016 clusters have ended to date, including the 14 clusters which ended today.
They are the Jalan Segambut construction site cluster, Jalan Tun Mutahir cluster, Persiaran Bunga Tanjung cluster, Jalan Baru cluster, Jalan Tronoh cluster, Jalan Jaya cluster, Jalan Kota Kulai cluster, Jalan Cemerlang Besi cluster, Persiaran Kempas Baru cluster, Kampung Mak The cluster, Jalan Permas Sembilan cluster, Batu 21 cluster, Jalan Damansara cluster, and Jalan Melati cluster.
