Sabah optimistic over 'sky train' project

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is optimistic it will have its own "sky train" to improve the public transportation system in the state capital.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said that it was not an impossible quest should there be proper planning and necessary allocation for the project.

"If the project materialises, it could change the development landscape in Kota Kinabalu and address the inefficiency of public transports and traffic congestion.

"The sky train will also become a new attraction for tourists, especially foreigners who come to visit the state," he said in a statement, today.

Bung Moktar, who is also state Works minister, added that Sabah has to beef up efforts in attracting foreign investment to bring development into the state.

As for now, there are several local and foreign investors who have shown interest in developing the project via private funding initiative.

Among the companies are Guancai (M) Sdn Bhd, China State Construction Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd and Vizione Development Sdn Bhd.

He also added that the companies should fine tune their proposals by having further discussions with relevant government agencies before tabling their proposal to the state cabinet.

"There are many issues that have to be discussed and improved particularly on land acquisitions," he said.
