BATU PAHAT: Police arrested a 21-year-old woman and a teenager after a video of the duo doing a wheelie along Jalan Datuk Syed Esa on May 10, went viral, recently.
The 31-second video showed the woman performing a wheelie, while the teen hung on to her, as the pillion rider.
A police report was lodged against the two suspects yesterday prior to their arrest at 4.45pm.
Batu Pahat district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Ismail Dollah said the district Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division came across the video recording at about 2.30pm before they arrested the duo at their respective houses in Taman Pantai later that evening.
"Preliminary investigations found that the duo including the 16-year-old performed the dangerous stunt along Jalan Datuk Syed Esa on May 10," he said in a statement today.
Ismail said police also seized the motorcycle they allegedly used to perform the dangerous stunt.
"Police have recorded their statements and both suspects have been released on police bail. The case is being investigated under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act (Amendment 2020)," he said.
If convicted, Ismail said the suspect can be sentenced to imprisonment of not more than five years and a fine not exceeding RM15,000.
"Their license can also be revoked for at least five years".
He reminded road users not to engage in actions or stunts that could endanger theirs and the lives of other road users.
"Parents or guardians also must take note of their children's activities and keep an eye on them," he said.
