KOTA BARU: Kelantanese were extremely charitable when it came to a donation drive for the Palestinians organised by the Pengkalan Chepa Pas division.
Kijang assemblyman Dr Izani Husin said a gold bar was among the items the organisers received during a series of charity drives related to the programme.
The first phase of the drive managed to collect about RM225,000.
He said the charity fund began on May 13 with the organisers collecting donations from various quarters, including members of the public.
"The fund is aimed at helping Palestinians who were recently under attack by the Israeli regime. Apart from cash donations, we also received a gold bar from 'Muslimat Pas' (Pas' women's wing). This shows that locals are very generous when it comes to donations," he said.
Besides a charity drive at public places, he said the programme included a drive-through donation concept.
He said the second phase of the donation drive started last week, and it would continue until next month.
"Members of the public can continue giving their donations to the fund by sending their contributions to the state constituency office," he said.
Dr Izani, who is state Local Government, Housing and Health Committee chairman, believes the collection for the second phase would be higher than the first one.
