Caretaker PM urges Kedah to expedite aid to flood victims

KUALA LUMPUR: Caretaker Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin hopes the Kedah government will deploy all related agencies to provide necessary assistance to the affected flood victims in Yan.

Muhyiddin, who has been closely following news on flash floods in the district, said safety and food supply should be the utmost priority at the moment.

"I understand that the Fire and Rescue Department as well as Civil Defence Force have launched rescue operations to ensure the safety of the victims.

"Hopefully, the duties of the teams are facilitated while displaced victims are given necessary aid and protection in a safe and orderly manner in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic," he said in a statement.

It was reported that a continuous downpour triggered flash floods at the district, forcing more than 100 people to leave their homes.

The floods so far claimed three lives, while three more victims were still missing.
