Johor collaborates with Mercy Malaysia to operate field hospital in Kulai

JOHOR BARU: Johor is collaborating with Mercy Malaysia to operate a field hospital at the Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Hospital (HTSMTI) in Kulai.

State Health and Environment Committee chairman R Vidyananthan said the field hospital, which began operation on Sept 4, would help to increase the capacity at HTSMTI.

"The bed usage at HTSMTI has exceeded 100 per cent over the last four weeks because of the increase in Covid-19 infection in the state.

"The field hospital would increase the bed capacity so that HTSMTI can focus on treating Covid-19 patients with serious symptoms (Category 3, 4 and 5)," said Vidyananthan in a statement.

He said the field hospital is equipped with the equipment and has the capacity to treat up to 50 patients at one time.

"It is also equipped with six toilets and two shower units and a suitable ventilation system to house patients who have moved past the critical stage and are waiting to be discharged," said Vidyananthan.

He said the field hospital will operate for two months until Nov 2011.

"As of Sept 11, 75 patients have been treated at the field hospital. There are seven patients currently being treated there," said Vidyananthan.
