Two burnt to death in Mergong car crash [NSTTV]

ALOR STAR: The charred remains a 19-year-old woman and a male driver were found in a Perodua Myvi which crashed and burnt at a traffic light intersection near Tesco Mergong about 3.10am on Thursday.

The female victim was identified as Tan Sun Wen while the male driver of the car has yet to be identified, said Kedah Fire and Rescue Department director Sayani Saidon.

He said firefighters from Alor Star station were deployed to the scene upon being alerted on the incident at 3.11am.

"Initial investigation suggests that the car had caught fire after it crashed, with 80 per cent of the vehicle were damaged," he said today.

Sayani said the firemen managed to put out the fire by 3.25am with the assistance from volunteer firefighthers from the Seberang Nyonya neighbourhood and the police.

"The remains of the driver was extracted from the gutted vehicle at 4.59am followed by the female passenger six minutes later," he said.
