ALOR SETAR: The number of flood evacuees in Kedah jumped to 546 people from 160 families compared to 446 people yesterday.
Malaysian Civil Defence Force Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat chief Mejar (PA) Mohd Muaz Mohd Yusof said Kota Setar was the latest district hit by the disaster when 46 people from 11 families were evacuated to the SK Langgar flood relief centre yesterday evening.
He said this morning 10 flood relief centres were in operations in Pendang, Baling, Pokok Sena and Kota Setar distrcts.
"As of 8am, in total, 546 flood evacuees from 160 families are seeking shelter at 10 flood relief centres in the state," he said in a statement.
Muaz said Baling remained the worst hit district in Kedah with a total 279 flood evacuees from 90 families currently seeking shelter at seven relief centres.
The relief centres are at SK Tanjung Pari, SK Siong, Dewan Orang Ramai Banggol Derom, SK Titi Gantung, SK Tengku Putera, SK Keda, and SK Pulai.
"There are 199 evacuees from 51 families in the Pendang district who are seeking shelter at the Dewan Rakan Sukan in Tanah Merah while in Pokok Sena, 22 people from eight families still remain at the Surau Permatang relief centre," he said.
