Pahang enters 6th day of floods, records slight improvement

KUANTAN: Pahang's flood situation is showing some improvement as the number of evacuees continues to drop despite persistent gloomy weather.

As at 6pm today, there were 36,841 flood evacuees from 10,807 families at 267 relief centres compared to 38,810 people at noon today.

Kuantan recorded improvements with 14,226 evacuees from 4,151 families remaining at 69 relief centres compared to 16,334 evacuees earlier today.

This is followed by Temerloh with 10,806 people from 3,034 families in 78 relief centres,. Bentong has 4,459 victims from 1,540 families at 16 centres and Bera with 2,017 victims from 577 families at 19 centres.

Jerantut registered 1,744 victims from 453 families seeking shelter at 26 relief centres followed by Pekan with 1,313 victims from 395 families at 20 centres and Lipis with 1,164 victims from 366 families at 17 evacuation centres.

Maran has 737 victims from 195 families at 18 centres. while Raub has 375 victims from 96 families at four centres.

A state Civil Defence Force spokesman said despite the uncertain weather conditions, Raub and Jerantut recorded a slight drop in the number of flood victims.

"Hopefully, promising weather continues tomorrow then more people will be allowed home. In some districts, the evacuation centres were closed after all the flood victims were allowed to return home," he said.

Pahang has to date recorded 10 flood-related deaths while six people are reported missing believed swept away by strong currents across the state.
