JOHOR BARU: The number of people evacuated to flood relief centres in Johor continues to rise as Kota Tinggi becomes the latest district in the state to be affected by floods.
According to the state Disaster Management Committee secretariat, as at 4pm, 2,022 victims from 512 families have been evacuated to 37 relief centres in Segamat, Tangkak and Kota Tinggi.
In Kota Tinggi, two relief centres were opened in SK Telok Ramunia, Pengerang, which is providing shelter to 16 victims from four families, and SK Mawai, where 16 victims are being housed.
Segamat remains the most affected district in Johor with 1,950 victims currently seeking shelter at 34 relief centres.
Meanwhile, a landslide occurred near Bukit Pelali in Pengerang, Kota Tinggi, this afternoon.
The Fire and Rescue Department were informed of the incident at 3.08pm.
A team of firemen from the Sebana Cove fire station led by operation commander Mohd Khairul Sufian Dahari was dispatched to the scene.
"Upon arrival, we found that a landslide had occurred at a cliff that affected an area 50 metres high and 150 metres wide.
"There were no victims involved in the incident. We proceeded to monitor the situation and make soil movement markings," said Khairul in a statement.
He said the team left the scene at 3.53pm after ensuring the safety of the area.
