Jentayu raises RM550,000 for Sabah flood victims

KOTA KINABALU: Jentayu Sustainables Berhad, previously known as IPMUDA Berhad, successfully raised RM550,000 during a recent fundraising ceremony at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), here.

The company was earlier supposed to launch its name change and the Sungai Maligan-Padas Hydroelectric Power Plant Project in Sabah, but decided to do a fundraiser instead for the flood victims here.

Now in its 47th year, Jentayu has gone through a new ownership change and is now focused on developing renewable energy and sustainability projects.

Its executive chairman Datuk Beroz Nikmal Mirdin urged more corporate and private agencies to contribute and relieve the burdens felt by flood victims.

"To all donors, we say thank you. Jentayu takes note of the country's flood situation while still battling the pandemic, we decided to replace our project launch with a fundraiser, to help relieve the burden of flood victims in Sabah.

"Next, as a sign of our commitment for Sabah's development, the Jentayu headquarters will move to Kota Kinabalu," he said in a statement.

The total contribution of RM550,000 will be channelled to more than 2,000 victims through their heads of household registered at the temporary evacuation centres.

The flooded areas are Kota Marudu, Paitan, Beluran, Telupid, Sandakan and Pitas.
