Wisma Putra advises Malaysians in Ukraine to register with embassy

KUALA LUMPUR: The Foreign Affairs Ministry is closely monitoring developments in and around Ukraine, especially concerning the 20 Malaysian nationals registered with the Malaysian Embassy in Kyiv.

This, it said, included its nine staff and their dependants.

"The embassy is in close contact with the rest of the Malaysians as well, including two students to ensure their safety, and provide consular assistance if required.

"The ministry strongly urges any other Malaysians currently in Ukraine, but yet to register with the Embassy in Kyiv to immediately contact and register themselves," it said in a statement today.

This will facilitate the embassy to extend consular assistance once they are in need of help, it said.

It also advised all Malaysians in Ukraine to give utmost attention to their safety and wellbeing, and to adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.

Malaysians requiring consular assistance in Ukraine are urged to contact the Malaysian Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine at +380 442 855 271 or +380 988 387 885 (after working hours) or email mwkiev@kln.gov.m, malaysia@embkiev.com.

Several countries have advised their citizens in Ukraine to leave the country amidst the Russia-Ukraine tension.

The United States has temporarily moved its diplomatic staff from Kyiv to Lviv as part of security measures.

Canada and Australia have also suspended operations at the embassies in Kyiv and opened a temporary office in Lviv, according to a Bernama report.
